There is value in a good volunteer and our attitudes make a difference! Not only does an enthusiastic and positive attitude pull people in and get them connected to community, but it is the catapult to lasting impact.

We are looking for passion filled volunteers who have a love for God and a love for serving others. Someone who is struggling and challenging themselves to become more like Christ. Who is willing to learn and grow. Knowledge of faith and theology is NOT essential, but an understanding of your own faith journey is important.

Children's Ministry

Select which area of Children's Ministry would you be interested in serving:

CARE CENTER HELPER. Help care for infants to 3-year-olds. A safe space for kids to play during the worship service and Second Hour.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP & WONDER LEADER. Help kids experience kid-friendly worship during the regular worship service. Two tracks offered: Elementary (K-5) & Preschool.

SECOND HOUR LEADER. Lead a Sunday school-like hour after the service during the school year from 10:45 a.m. -11:45 a.m.

WEDNESDAY EVENING SPARK LEADER. Be part of the fun in a youth group-like program for kids ages 4-years-old through 5th grade. Students will engage in games, crafts, a Bible story, and small groups. Spark meets during the school year from September-May minus holiday weeks. Spark will run alongside our CMC dance program!

Youth Ministry

Select which area of Youth Ministry would you be interested in serving:

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP, WEDNESDAY EVENINGS. From September through May starting at 5:00 pm, a complimentary dinner is served in the Gathering Place with the youth group meeting in the youth center from 6-7:30 p.m. There is a large group activity and a lesson with discussion and then time in small groups.

MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL, SUNDAY MORNINGS. Immediately following worship, students gather in the youth center for a teaching time.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP, SUNDAY EVENINGS. From September through April from 6-7:30pm, students gather in the youth center for large group activities, a lesson with discussion, and then time in small groups. Group outings also take place throughout the year.

SUMMER YOUTH TRIP. A service-oriented youth trip, usually a week long, takes place in the summer for the purpose of youth being given the opportunity to serve those who are less fortunate.

PROFESSION OF FAITH MENTORS. From January through April, students choosing to publicly profess their faith are mentored by an adult for eight sessions. The public profession takes place the first Sunday in May.

Care Ministry

Select which area of Care would you be interested in serving:

CARE PARTNER. Join the team of CMC volunteers who help to meet our members’ physical, mental and spiritual needs. CMC Care Partners listen to suggestions and complaints; refer identified needs back to the care team; support with problems (illness, family, grief); comfort by prayer and scripture; encourage faithful responses to their situation; offer to deliver sermon CDs, bulletins, freezer meals or placement on the CMC prayer email; and invitation to events as appropriate.

CARE AND REPAIR. This ministry provides nonprofessional help and assistance, free of charge, with home repair and maintenance available to our members and non-member neighbors, targeting single mothers, senior saints, widowed, or those with ability challenges. However, requests from any and all are welcome regardless of the circumstances. Examples: window washing, power washing, window and door repair, ornamental maintenance, simple plumbing, minor painting, carpentry, and hardware installation.

FIRST RESPONDERS. CMC has a Medical First Responder scheduled on Sunday mornings and special events that are available to assist in medical emergencies if needed. If you are certified in CPR and a medically trained individual, we would love to have you join our pool of volunteers.

USHERS. Be a welcoming, smiling face as you hand out bulletins, and be ready for questions as they arise. Our members and guests seat themselves, but you may find yourself helping newcomers find a seat, helping those with mobility issues or special situations or responding to emergencies.

MEMORIAL SERVICE SERVERS. Work as a team member to set up, serve, and clean up luncheon as planned and provided by the family. Strengths required: a servant’s heart and capable body.

FREEZER MEAL COOKS. Give the gift of a healthy freezer meal to those in need. Prepare the meal at home, and then either freeze or bring in the meal immediately to the church office. CMC staff will place it in the freezer here to help those who have a temporary need.

SERVE IT UP WITH LOVE. Be a “chef” and donate a fresh meal every month to those who would be blessed by it. The schedule, instructions, and recipes will all be provided. Recipes are provided, and meals are hand delivered by others. Meals are distributed in partnership with Doors of Hope and also deliver to members of Christ Memorial Church.

Connections

Select which area of Hospitality would you be interested in serving:

OUTSIDE GREETER. Welcome everyone with a smile, a handshake or a hug as they arrive at our doors. Help each person who enters know that they are welcome here, feel as comfortable as possible, and receive the information they need. Training will be provided.

INSIDE GREETER. Stand just inside the door, greet people with a smile and be ready to answer questions. In general, your greetings will be brief, but sometimes you may find the opportunity to accompany guests to their point of interest, which could mean introducing them to our Children’s Worship team or walking with them to find a cup of coffee or restroom. Training will be provided.

HOST / ROAMER. Be available before church begins to seek out guests and introduce yourself, offering to help them find where they need to go. This is a very relation-based position that frees the greeters to stay at their stations. Training will be provided.

WELCOME KIOSK. Be available to answer questions and chat with both guests and members. This is an opportunity to listen well and take note when others relay information that should be passed along to the Care Team (surgery, illnesses, special situations). Your presence will help CMC continue to connect with – and care for – our members and guests. Training will be provided.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT GREETERS / HOSTS. Each week, several neighbors and guests join us for our free, evening meal. We are looking for warm and friendly volunteers who are comfortable starting a conversation, getting acquainted and making others feel welcome. You may even make new friends as you invite others to join you around a table in the Gathering Area for supper.

BUS DRIVERS. Driving opportunities include: Sunday morning & nights, Youth Group, Wednesday nights (as needed). Anyone that currently drives a school bus could drive the church bus. Class C CDL with a Passenger Endorsement required, and CMC may be able to help with the cost of the endorsement.

SPECIAL EVENTS HOSPITALITY. Be a gracious host and a helping hand when CMC hosts special events for members and our guests. This may include Sweet Fellowship, Harvest Festival, picnics and more. We need all kinds of helping hands, from set up to serving and greeting participants to clean-up after events.

Hand2Hand

PACKING CREW. Fight childhood hunger by being part of a team that packs bags of food and snacks that will be delivered to students at local schools.

DELIVERY DRIVERS. Use one of the Christ Memorial vans and be part of a team of 3-4 people who deliver bins of snacks and food to local schools to help fight childhood hunger. Note: This requires some heavy lifting.

FOOD PICKUP DRIVER. Drive a Christ Memorial van to the greater Grand Rapids area to pick up groceries from Feeding America or the Hand2Hand office in Jenison and bring it to church. The food will be loaded onto the van for you, and unloading it afterward is optional.

Operations

Select which area of Facilities would you be interested in serving:

FRONT DESK RECEPTIONIST. Provide a warm, hospitable welcome to those coming into the office, answer the phone and direct calls, and occasionally help with clerical projects including mailings. Confidentiality is important in this role.

INFORMATION KIOSK. Be available to answer questions and chat with both guests and members and facilitate sign-up for activities. This is an opportunity to listen well and take note when others relay information that should be passed along to the Care Team (surgery, illnesses, special situations). Your presence will help CMC continue to connect with – and care for – our members and guests. Training will be provided.

OFFERING COLLECTORS. Pass the offering plate during the Sunday Worship Service. It only takes a few minutes, but we need 10 people each week for this role.

SPECIAL EVENTS SUPPORT. It takes a village to host the many special events and concerts that bring hundreds of guests to Christ Memorial Church. We would like to create a pool of volunteers that are willing to help with these special events. We need box office help, ticket takers, ushers, people by a merchandise table, help with set-up and take-down, people to unload and reload trucks security assistance and “runners” who are willing to do errands. As a perk, volunteers are often able to attend the event or concert for free.

KITCHEN ASSISTANT. Help serve food and goodies with the kitchen crew! Wednesday evening dinners, and/ or Sunday morning goodies.

MAINTENANCE / LANDSCAPING CREW. Join the 70 x 7 Life Recovery Crew that volunteers to help with cleaning and landscaping every week. These men and women work beside clients of 70 x 7, an organization that helps offers instruction, guidance and employment opportunities to men and women released from incarceration.
