Our mission is to help college students become lifelong disciples of Christ. There are over 24,000 students at Western Michigan University, very few of whom know the Lord. It is our mission to meet them, befriend them, share the good news of Jesus Christ with them, and invite them into our community.
Another key element of our ministry is helping believing students get connected with the local church. There is a large amount of atrophy among college-age believers and we strive to reverse that trend by helping students who come to college from a Christian background connect with the local church so they can continue to grow in their faith during their college years.
We seek to be a vibrant, multiplying church who lives out the Greatest Commandment and the Great Commission.
We unpack that statement like this:
Seek to be – this in an ongoing process, not an “arrived at” destination.
Vibrant – Christ alive in us
Multiplying – Christ alive in others
Church who – the church is a group of people
Lives Out Actively The Greatest Commandment – Matthew 22:36-40 and The Great Commission – Matthew 28:16-20
At H2O, Jesus is our message.
Scripture is our foundation.
Prayer is our posture.
The Character of Christ is our aim.
Authentic relationships are our way of life.
The next generation is our future.
Generosity is our joy.
Justice is our charge.
Sending (workers) [Luke 10, John 20:21] is our passion.
Everything we do is about seeing Christ alive in us and Christ alive in others. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” We dream of that abundant life breaking out in the hearts of those who call Western Michigan University and the Kalamazoo area home. We dream of men and women in every generation being caught up in this redemptive adventure and living as “sent” disciples who make disciples, imparting to each one a lifestyle of worship, community, and mission.
At H2O our current focus is reaching Western Michigan University students for Christ. We hope that God will grow our church and use us to some day reach students at Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College as well.
