Montello Park School 1957

To set up for worship on Sunday mornings, members would rope off the gym for a worship area and place folding chairs for the worshipers. Sunday School was held in a corner of the gym and segregated by gender. Teachers would send three-cent postcards to Sunday School students to remind them to attend. Seminarian Ron Brown was the summer pastor and because of his height, the basketball hoop in the gym had to be moved. At Christmas time, some members wanted to have a Christmas tree in the worship area, but this was not allowed by the elders. It was placed in the hallway instead.

From the beginning, Christ Memorial was known as a friendly church, and new people who would come to worship would be assigned a current member to make them feel welcome.
